How the Cost Code Library is Organized

A 3-level hierarchy: Division → Section → Line Item. Estimators build estimates by adding line items into sections. The library is the single source of truth — one master list shared across all estimates and all customers.

Division (14 total)
Top-level groups like Track Materials, Bridges, MOW. Aligned with AREMA chapter conventions and CSI MasterFormat Division 34 (Transportation).
Section
Subgroups within a division. e.g. Division 05 (Track Materials) → 05.10 Ties, 05.20 Rail, 05.30 OTM & Fasteners.
Line Item
The atomic priced row — has a code, description, UOM, default L/E/M/S costs, and default markup. Adding a single line item to an estimate doesn't need an assembly header — it just lives in its section.
Are these codes industry-standard?
The structure is. The specific code numbers are yours. AREMA and CSI MasterFormat define organizational frameworks (chapters / division headings), not pre-numbered cost code lists. Every contractor builds their own coded list. Switch to the Assemblies tab above to see how line items combine into reusable bundles.

Demo note: One library, one source of truth. Δ column shows how actual costs from completed jobs compare to library defaults — the library gets smarter every time you close a project. Customer-specific rate overrides can layer on top of any line item.
